Join us in preserving the historic Claremont Club Building at 214 Hillcrest.

The 214 Hillcrest Conservancy is a registered 501(c)(3) Organization that supports the Historical Resource at 214 Hillcrest Ave. Berkeley, CA 94705.

About the building

In 1911, neighbors of the newly developed Claremont Park neighborhood came together to build a clubhouse to host social events. Designed by Charles Sumner Kaiser, the Clubhouse was financed by the sale of stock in The Claremont Assembly Hall Company.

For more than 100 years, the clubhouse has been a gathering place for the Claremont Club, a private social club and 501(c)(7) and the home of neighborhood events and charitable programs.

In 2026, the clubhouse was recognized as a California Historical Resource, inspiring the creation of The 214 Hillcrest Conservancy.

Our first project

Our 2027 fundraising campaign, A Vision for the Future, will raise funds to commission a set of as-built drawings of the building to share with architects and other partners.

These drawings are the first step in setting a vision for architecturally-sensitive improvements to the century-old structure.
